In January, Manchester United recruited Wout Weghorst on loan, but the 30-year-old has only managed one goal in 11 games across all competitions. As a result, the Red Devils are anticipated to buy a productive center-forward in the summer transfer window. Mitrovic is one of the strikers in Manchester United’s wishlist.
Aleksandar Mitrovic, a striker for Fulham, has proven to be a reliable goal scorer in England and, in Tim Sherwood’s opinion, would be an improvement over Weghorst.
He said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: “He’s a step up from him. If Weghorst can play for Man United, then so can Mitrovic.“
“The manager wants a nine and I think they go for a big one in the summer. A standout number nine in Europe whoever that may be.”

Manchester United wants Aleksander Mitrovic
In 2018, Mitrovic paid £22 million to transfer from Newcastle United to Fulham. Since then, he has made 198 appearances in all competitions, notching 107 goals and 22 assists.
The Serbian international has been brilliant over the past two seasons, scoring 11 goals and dishing out two assists in 19 Premier League games this season after tallying 43 goals and seven assists in 44 Championship games last year. He is now in the greatest form of his career.
Anthony Martial is unlikely to be a fixture up front next season due to his lack of playing time and health. Eric ten Hag will require a natural center-forward because Marcus Rashford is more successful out wide.
With his great return, it’s understandable why Sherwood believes Mitrovic could excel at Man United. Although the Red Devils are probably considering other candidates as well.
Fulham won’t want to part with their talisman of form either. Mitrovic has a lot to play for in west London. Because the Cottagers have him under contract until 2026 and might play in Europa next season.
