Arsenal are making preparations to sign a ‘complete midfielder’ in January

Danilo

Premier League side Arsenal started the transfer window off in fire but struggled in its closing days. After signing the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksander Zinchenko among others, they focused on outgoings and failed to sign a midfielder on deadline day. This is despite injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohammad Elneny forcing the Gunners to search for a midfielder on Deadline day desperately.

However, it isn’t all gloom for the Gunners. They have already begun working to sign Brazillian midfielder Danilo in January. They had shown interest in the Palmeiras midfielder in the summer. However, It was reported that a deal back then was unlikely.

The Brazillian is more likely to arrive in a winter move. Reportedly, the groundwork for the move has already been laid over. Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz was their top target during deadline day. Since the Gunners have failed to land him, it leaves Danilo free to join in 2023.

Danilo to Arsenal: The current situation

Of course, circumstances may change by then. With Arsenal busy with the Europa League, as well as the World Cup will have happened by then.

Arsenal are currently top of the league, having beaten five teams out of five. However, with the Europa League soon to start, they will be facing three games a week soon. With injuries striking both Mo Elneny and Thomas Partey, they only have two fit central midfielders currently.

Youri Tielemans was another player Arsenal has had constant links with. Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is another potential signing they could make in January.

A right-winger is also on Mikel Arteta‘s shopping list, to provide Bukayo Saka rest and competition. Wolves’ Pedro Neto, Villereal’s Yeremy Pino, and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk were all linked with a move to the Emirates in the late stages of the transfer window.

Apart from injuries to their midfield, there have been doubts to the fitness of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsalde and captain Martin Odegaard. This would be bad news ahead of their visit to Old Trafford when they clash against a resurgent Manchester United on Sunday.
