Antonio Rudiger rejects Manchester United in favour of Real Madrid

About Football Express UK

Football journalists Christian Falk and Patrick Berger have confirmed that Manchester United did approach Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger. But the centre-back has decided to reject the approach from Manchester United and join La Liga giants Real Madrid.

While Antonio Rudiger was linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge on a free transfer since the turn of the season. But there was always a hope amongst the Chelsea faithful that the German centre-back would sign a new long term deal with the club at some point. But Thomas Tuchel confirmed last week that the centre-back would be leaving on a free transfer in the summer.

Rudiger joins Andreas Christensen as the second player leaving on a free transfer in the summer. Club captain César Azpilicueta is also out of contract in the summer. While Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the defender was close to signing a new deal with the club. But with the club still without a new owner. More and more doubts are going over the captain’s future at the club.

The defender has been ever consistent on the left side of defence yet again for Thomas Tuchel this term. But he has missed the last few games due to injury. Rudiger has made a total of 47 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea this term. In this time he has recorded five goals and four assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)

Manchester United offered Antonio Rudiger a £160,000k per week contract?

Christian Falk confirmed that the Premier League giants Manchester United offered the german centre-back a £160,000k per week contract. The deal was reported to be worth an estimated 10 million euros per season. Reports suggest that Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is a big fan of the German centre-back. But Rudiger has decided to reject the approach from Manchester United out of respect for Chelsea.

Manchester United signed French star centre-back Raphaël Varane in the summer from Real Madrid, but the centre-back has missed a major chunk of the season due to injury setbacks. The red devils have kept just nine clean sheets in all competitions this term. The club certainly needs to sign a new defender in the summer. New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to bring Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber alongside him in the summer. The red devils are also linked with Spanish centre-back Pau Torres ahead of the summer.
