Are Arsenal right to ‘trust the process’ under Mikel Arteta?

About Football Express UK

The Arsenal faithful are yet again on the verge of questioning the process under Mikel Arteta as the club look set to miss out on Champions League football yet again.

Mikel Arteta took over at his former club as manager back in December 2019. The club have lifted the FA Cup with the Spaniard at the helm. But the club have kept up with the tradition of missing out on Champions League football. The club have finished 8th in the Premier League table in the past two seasons. Arsenal missed out completely on European football last term.

The gunners were expected a similar finish despite spending way over £150million in the summer transfer window. But with Manchester United‘s season going completely south. Arsenal looked complete favorites for the fourth spot in the league table. But things have not quite gone to plan for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

The 3-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspurs. But particularly the 2-0 loss against Newcastle United basically confirmed the club missing out on Champions League football yet again. Antonio Conte has done a fantastic job at Tottenham Hotspurs. Spurs did not even have an outsider’s chance for the top four midway through the season.

Is Mikel Arteta still the right man to lead Arsenal?

Despite missing out on Champions League football yet again. But Mikel Arteta has seen a major rebuild at the Emirates. He has sold underperforming players on massive wages over the past few transfer windows. The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Özil have been sold under Mikel Arteta’s reign.

While the Spanish manager has also changed the transfer strategy over the past couple of seasons. Arsenal have scouted and signed younger players. While the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Eddie Nketiah have broken through into the first team under Mikel Arteta. Young summer signings Martin Ødegaard and Ben White have also been key additions to the team. The Gunners have the youngest squad in the Premier League this season.

There is no doubt that the Spanish manager has spent a lot of money. But the club seems to be on the right path. The addition of top players like Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans could certainly push the gunners to the next level.
