Leeds optimistic over Bamford return as Premier League injury expert assesses situation

About Football Express UK

Leeds United are having a tough run at the moment, fighting the relegation battle. However, Jesse Marsch has seen his team play some good football over the last few games. But injuries to many of his players have hampered their performance. Moreover, striker Patrick Bamford has been sorely missed by Leeds who was their top-scorer in the league last season.

Leeds have been dealing with injuries to their crucial players since the start of the season. Tyler Roberts, Adam Forshaw, Crysencio Summerville and Stuart Dallas sustained injuries which have ruled them out for the season. However, one injury which has had a major impact on Leeds’s season is Patrick Bamford’s. The Whites’ goal-getter has been regularly out with recurring injuries. The striker played every league game last season, scoring a massive 17 goals and further assisting 7. This season though, he has only featured 9 times scoring twice and assisting as many times.

Premier League injury expert Ben Dinnery however has the latest and a positive update on Bamford. The 28-year-old is out of action since March due to a foot injury. But Bamford may just make a comeback in time for Leeds’ remaining two games according to Dinnery. Further on, the injury expert has suggested a new role for Bamford as well.

Current Premier League Standings

‘Special role’ for Bamford in Leeds’ remaining fixtures

Though results have gone against them, Leeds have played decent football Marsch. Especially against Arsenal where the Whites despite being down to 10-men gave a resilient fight. However, three consecutive defeats have left Leeds languishing in the 18th place. Leeds are level on points with 17th placed Burnley, who have a game in hand. Jesse Marsch will have to steer his side to two wins in the remaining two games to have serious chances of survival.

Amidst the pressure, Dinnery has indicated that Bamford is up for a “special role” at Leeds for their games against Brighton and Brentford. Marsch knows that both the teams have been in great form of late and the fixtures against them are going to be quite tough. Bamford faces a late fitness test to be available for Leeds as they next face Brighton on Sunday.

Dinnery on the other hand had this to say about Bamford returning for Leeds. The injury expert while talking to FI said, “With a fully fit Patrick Bamford, Leeds would be nowhere near where they are currently. They don’t have a natural goal-scorer at the moment. They have tried a few up there but no one has got anywhere near his goal return. It depends on results elsewhere. I certainly think there is a special role from the bench to be had for Bamford. He isn’t going to be where they want him in terms of fitness and sharpness but he knows how to score. He will make opportunities for himself and he is huge for that Leeds team.”

Leeds need Bamford in any form for their last couple of games. Even if the striker is available from an off-the-bench appearance, Marsch will need it. Bamford has proved his scoring abilities in the Premier League and Leeds heavily relies on the same.
