Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool holds an admiration for Ryan Gravenberch. Yet their focus remains on securing a deal for Manu Kone. In his recent column for CaughtOffside, Romano mentioned that while Liverpool acknowledges Gravenberch’s talent. But he is not currently their primary target.
The future is uncertain regarding Bayern Munich’s stance on selling the 21-year-old player. As per Romano, discussions between the player, club, and manager are to occur in the near future.
During this period, it appears that Liverpool will concentrate their endeavors on acquiring both Kone and his France U21 teammate, Khephren Thuram. Liverpool’s stance on these three players has indeed become perplexing. Surprisingly, there has been minimal progress since the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, which occurred two weeks ago today.
The situation surrounding Kone is especially puzzling. Borussia Monchengladbach appears to be willing to sell him for a possible fee as low as £26m, making the deal seemingly straightforward. Given Kone’s exceptional abilities, being labeled as ‘phenomenal,’ it appears to be the type of bargain Liverpool is seeking.
Is Kone arriving to Liverpool a possibility?
According to reports, discussions with Kone’s agents have been ongoing for the past few weeks. It is surprising to think that Liverpool would present a challenge in convincing him to join, given their reputation and stature.
A similar situation applies to Thuram and Gravenberch, as their representatives have also been approached. Both players are reportedly eager to join Liverpool, yet there have been no significant updates regarding their potential transfers. It would be an expectation that the Reds would have made progress in these negotiations by now.
Rather than actively pursuing the mentioned players, Liverpool appears to be biding their time for an alternative opportunity. While Thuram may be a priority, it seems that Kone and Gravenberch are going to be backup options. It’s possible that Liverpool has a preferred player in mind, yet to be disclosed, and is securing Kone and Gravenberch as contingency plans if negotiations for their top target fall through.
