Barcelona boss to hold talks with Memphis Depay amid Tottenham Hotspur links

Tottenham Hotspur

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández is set to hold talks with Memphis Depay amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old Dutch international has toured along with his Blaugrana teammates to the US for pre-season. Meanwhile, in the midst of the transfer window, Barcelona have made vital signings possible this summer for the forthcoming season.

Having snapped up the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, and Andreas Christensen, the club is on course to compete for titles. Moreover, the Catalan giants even managed to renew Ousmane Dembele’s contract that keeps him till the summer of 2024.

The arrival of new signings this summer could see certain players within the squad slip down the pecking order. Among them is Memphis Depay, who joined the club last summer but could be on course to make an exit only a year later.

Depay to join Tottenham?

As the uncertainty over his future seems to be looming, Barcelona boss Xavi has decided to hold talks with the Dutchman. Moreover, it’s no secret that the club is going through some of its toughest phases, especially considering their dire financial status.

In an attempt to reduce the wage bill and register new signings, Depay’s exit seems imminent. The Dutch forward has offers from the English top flight but has rejected approaches from Tottenham Hotspur.

Certainly, with Lewandowski and Raphinha in the squad, Depay could lose regular game time under Xavi assuming he stays. However, the 28-year-old has come to terms on leaving Camp Nou and open to moving elsewhere this summer.

Adding to that, the club’s board has informed Xavi their desire to sell the Dutchman in this transfer window. There are weeks to go before the transfer window concludes, the club could find a solution to facilitate the exit.

Barcelona are willing to lower the asking price for the forward and this could tempt Conte to convince Depay.
