Arsenal defender may make shock exit in 2023

About Football Express UK

Arsenal now may lose key left-back Kieran Tierney after Mikel Arteta dropped him. The Telegraph predicted a possible 2023 sale of Scottish International’s services. This has become rather likely after reduced appearances recently. Even Cedric Soares – typically a right-back – was preferred to Tierney during their match against Nottingham Forest. This has raised severe doubts over the Scotsman’s future.

Tierney expressed surprise about Arteta’s decision to drop him during the 3-2 victory over Liverpool. He said: “I’ve genuinely never had that. That was the first meeting I’ve had like in my life where I’ve been dropped, so it is new to me still.”

Since that match, Takehiro Tomiyasu has become increasingly preferred as a left-back. Arteta prefers a strong foot and the ability to float in half-spaces of the pitch. Meanwhile, Tierney is known for his strong crossing and tendency to stick to the far flanks.

What is the viewpoint of Arsenal on this matter?

Tierney still has a lot to offer Arsenal in terms of depth and quality. Unless he actively pushes for a move, there is no reason Arsenal should put him up for sale. The defender is firmly one of the best left-backs in the League. His unique qualities also offer Arteta another option in addition to Tomiyasu and the injured Zinchenko.

The value of Tierney is currently quite high. The 25-year-old is fit, experienced, and has his best years ahead of him. Arsenal will stand to make a tidy profit off their initial £25m investment. If Summer offers a high enough offer, they may be convinced to make the sale.
