As per reports, Manchester United are about to sign Dutch striker from Bologna, Joshua Zirkzee. The deal is about to close and United fans are very much excited.
The 23 year old striker has a £34 million release clause with Bologna. The Italian club’s sporting director has also confirmed that the Dutch striker will 99.99% join some other club this summer. It seems that other club is none other than Manchester United. It is assumed that the Red Devils will complete the deal in the next week.
Manchester United are also signing Zirkzee’s international teammate Matthis De Ligt from German giants Bayern Munich. As per reports, the Red Devils are very close to sign the Dutch defender for £40 – £45 million. Signing these two players for reasonable prices are bringing hope to the club’s fans.
Why Manchester United need Zirkzee
In the previous season, Manchester United lacked a lot in their attacking prowess. With so many injuries, there was a constant change in formations and patterns in the attack of Manchester United. In the previous season, they had scored lesser goals than they had conceded. With that, Rasmus Hojlund was brought to the club as the main number 9 in the squad. However, his season was pretty underwhelming as he scored only 10 goals. The manager Erik Ten Hag believes that Hojlund needs a striking partner. He believes someone who is with him with a bit more technical abilities and he thinks Joshua Zirkzee is the perfect addition.

Zirkzee was incredible last season, helping Bologna finish top 4 in the Serie A. Joshua Zirkzee under Thiago Motta was something else and Manchester United are desperate for him. He scored 11 goals in 32 appearances. Due to his incredible performances in Serie A, he was even called up by the Netherlands national team to play in the Euros. Joshua Zirkzee is very good on the ball. He has rated quite well in dribbling and playmaking. What’s more beneficial for Ten Hag is that the Dutch also contributes defensively by dropping behind many times. This would help Manchester United in their transitional gameplays.
Manchester United and their transfers
Manchester United are very serious with their signings this season. After the takeover by INEOS and Jim Ratcliffe, the new board are wholly focused on rebuilding the club as a whole. They are not paying a huge signing fee for every player they are going after. Reasonable prices with reasonable waging system were very much required. Also signing a sporting director like Dan Ashworth was very much important because good future investments are always important for any club to stay strong and relevant in the future.
