Analysing Spain vs Germany

The match between Spain and Germany was a total feast for the eyes. It had all the elements one wishes the most. Spain took the lead after Dani Olmo scored from an assist by 16-year-old Lamine Yamal. With this, Lamine Yamal has registered 3 assists for himself and is the youngest ever to do that. Spain were completely dominating especially Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal. Their attacking was splendid, fast and wide. Rodri was a crucial defensive unit in the midfield, able to intercept and anticipate almost every ball from the Germans.

Germany, however, managed to equalize the score on the 89th minute of the game thanks to Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz. The game went on extra-time and both the teams were equally dangerous when they were on the ball. But, on 119th minutes, Mikel Merino scored an excellent header from Dani Olmo’s assist which helped Spain qualify for the semi-finals. This was Thomas Muller’s last game for Germany and Toni Kroos’s last game of his career.

Now there was a big controversy regarding Anthony Taylor’s refereeing. During one of Germany’s attacks, Musiala shot the ball which looked like was going towards the goal. It got blocked by Marc Cucurella’s hand. However, no penalty was given to the Germans which costed heavily. Even the VAR did not show any action. It was assumed that Fullkrug who passed the ball to Musiala was offside. But there are no other angles nor did the VAR show any image of him being offside.

Regardless, Spain did a fantastic job. The squad is very young, but they played like experienced men out there. Sadly, in this match, one of their crucial players Pedri, got injured after a rough tackle from Toni Kroos. According to Fabrizio Romano, Pedri is out completely and will not be able to play in the rest of the matches left in the Euro. This is a big blow to the Spanish squad.

How are Spain preparing for their last two matches?

Spain are very much focused and confident on winning this tournament. Though, they might be missing few important players like Dani Carvajal, Ferran Torres and Alvaro Morata. But they still look extremely strong. Their opponents for the semi finals is Kylian Mbappe’s France. It’s going to be very interesting. Do you think Spain can win this year’s Euro?
