Leighton Clarkson reveals reasons of his decision behind leaving Liverpool

Liverpool

Leighton Clarkson, who had been with Liverpool for 15 years, departed the club during the summer transfer window. Clarkson revealed that his departure was because of a perceived lack of communication or contact from the first-team management. Clarkson progressed through Liverpool’s academy and reaching the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad. However, he ultimately made the decision to seek new opportunities elsewhere earlier this month.

Leighton Clarkson, the 21-year-old midfielder, completed a move to Aberdeen for an undisclosed fee. Clarkson spent the previous season on loan at Pittodrie, where he made 38 appearances. Thereby, contributing with six goals and nine assists. Despite Liverpool’s readiness to offer him a new contract, it was undoubtedly a challenging decision for the young midfielder to leave the club and seek opportunities elsewhere.

In an interview with The Athletic, Leighton Clarkson revealed that the lack of communication from the first-team squad during his loan spell away from Liverpool was a significant factor in his decision to leave. He explained that this silence was a key indicator for him. Thus, solidifying his belief that it was time to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

“Since I came up to Aberdeen, I didn’t really hear much from any of them. And that’s when I knew I maybe needed to move on.”

What made Leighton Clarkson to take the decision of leaving Liverpool?

Leighton Clarkson’s loan spell at Blackburn Rovers didn”t stay long. With the midfielder making just seven appearances for the club. Despite this setback, he expressed disappointment for not being part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans at Liverpool. When asked if his unsuccessful stint at Blackburn affected how he was perceived at his parent club, Clarkson responded with “maybe”. Thus, suggesting that it might have influenced the way he was viewed within Liverpool.

Leighton Clarkson now has the chance to establish himself as a pivotal player under the guidance of Barry Robson at Aberdeen. Despite receiving offers with more lucrative financial terms from other clubs, Clarkson opted to join the Dons. Thus, indicating his desire to prioritize playing time and career development over monetary considerations. This decision highlights his determination to make a significant impact at his new club. Hence, seize the opportunity to become an integral part of Aberdeen’s team.

It can indeed be disappointing to learn that there was little communication or support from Liverpool players during Leighton Clarkson’s loan spell. Especially considering his regular training with the first-team in previous years. Maintaining a connection and showing support to players who are out on loan can be crucial for their development and overall morale. However, every player’s experience and circumstances can vary. Thus, it’s important to remember that individual relationships and interactions may differ within a club.
