Is Lionel Messi available for Copa America quarter-finals?

There are questions hanging around in the air regarding the injury of Lionel Messi. Argentina are in a tense situation with their captain’s injury.

Lionel Messi admitted that he felt a discomfort in the match against Chile where Argentina won 1-0. It was later observed that the Argentine captain was suffering from a hamstring injury. Messi did play in the opening two games against Canada and Chile, but had to sit the whole match against Peru, on the bench.

Now, questions have been raised whether Lionel Messi be able to play against Ecuador in the quarter-finals of the Copa America.

Injury update of Messi

There have been a few updates regarding Messi’s injury. Argentina’s assistant coach Walter Samuel said that the situation is improving. However, they are always talking with the doctors one-on-one all the time. They don’t want to miss their captain in the quarter finals.

According to Cardenas, Lionel Messi has returned to a full training session with the squad on Monday. This is a positive sign for everyone who are rooting for the Albiceleste to win the Copa America. National teammate Angel Di Maria is fully confident about the fitness level of Lionel Messi.

What is next for Lionel Messi

The 37 year old is trying his best to recover from his injury. He is looking forward to play against Ecuador. Right now, Messi’s first and only priority is to defend his Copa America trophy. Despite him not being able to play in the game against Peru, Argentina won 2-0 comfortably, thanks to the brace from Lautaro Martinez. The Inter striker has been in an incredible form in this Copa America, scoring in every match of the group stage. His World Cup campaign did not go as planned. However, he is making up for it by stepping up at every game of this Copa America.

Also, till now, Lionel Messi has not registered a goal for himself in this year’s competition. The Inter Miami playmaker, has failed to score in the group stages. Still, he has provided an assist in the first game against Canada. But this is not the first time that La Pulga has not scored a goal in the group stages of an international tournament. 2007 Copa America and 2010 South Africa World Cup are the other competitions where Messi failed to score in the group stages.
