Barcelona future of the two Joao’s is still uncertain

Barcelona has been the subject of many speculations. The club has had one of its worst seasons in terms of success on the field. FC Barcelona signed Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on a one-year loan deal last summer. Both players have had their moments, but they have been unconvincing.

The two Portuguese internationals are playing the UEFA Euros for their country as their future hangs in the balance.

Felix and Cancelo will be permitted to rejoin their parent teams, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, respectively, according to a statement made by Barcelona on Sunday. Additionally, they verified Marcos Alonso’s exit. Nevertheless, their official website has since taken down both of these statements.

This has led to a lot of talk among supporters and football fans in general.

Fabrizio Romano posted on his Twitter account about their future as well. He said,

“João Félix and João Cancelo’s situation remains open for Barcelona.

Talks took place with his agent, Jorge Mendes, to keep both players for next season.

Discussions are to continue on the club’s side with Atlético and Manchester City.”

However, their future is even more uncertain because of FC Barcelona’s finances. Barcelona are desperately trying to get back to the 1:1 rule of La Liga FFP. This means they can sign a player for every player sale. Their future at the Catalan club will depend on them and the financial situation after new manager Hansi Flick takes over. However, the other choice that could present itself is loaning them on for one more year. Although it seems unlikely, it will still be an opportunity for both Barcelona, Cancelo, and Felix.

Barcelona performances by Cancelo and Felix

Joao Cancelo, the attack-minded full-back from Barreiro in Portugal, is one of the best at what he does. After having a stellar time at Manchester City, he fell out with manager Pep Guardiola. Joao Cancelo won three Premier League titles for Manchester City during his time at the club. However, low frequency of game time despite putting in great performances frustrated him and it resulted in a rift between him and the Spanish mastermind. Cancelo scored 9 goals under Guardiola and racked up eleven assists before leaving City on loan to Bayern Munich.

After spending an inconsistent season in Bavaria, he was brought in by Xavi. He had a decent time at Barcelona, with great match-winning performances and even goals and assists. However, his defensive inconsistencies cost him again. The worst ones came during the Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. He gave away a cheap penalty, which further crushed their hopes of a semi-final.

However, he brought a lot of joy to Barcelona fans with his passion for the club. He scored four goals and assisted five times in his only season at the club.

Joao Felix on the other hand, has had a different kind of season from his compatriot. Spending his time mostly on the bench, he made few impactful moments for himself. He fell out of favour with Diego Simoene at Atletico Madrid after being labelled as lazy.

Felix joined Barcelona after pushing hard for the move, even taking a massive pay cut to join the Catalan side. He put the ball into the back of the net 10 times for Barcelona while providing 5 assists. However, he was also inconsistent and did not show enough heart on the pitch, according to some fans of Barcelona.

The future of Felix and Cancelo

The delayed post and heavy speculation show that there is uncertainty at the club. However, wherever the Joaos play next, they will hopefully deliver their best.
