Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has spoken on Thiago Alcantara’s situation at Liverpool. The Spaniard is struggling at Anfield. Moreover, his injury has side lined him since April. If that’s not enough, arrival of new midfielders like Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister has further decreased the attention towards Thiago. Glen Johnson has spoken about the player’s skeptical future at Anfield.
As per empireofthekop, Glen Johnson believes that Thiago Alcantara hasn’t been able to adapt to the league.
” I really appreciate Thiago Alcantara. He’s a world class player with great technical abilities. But he’s struggling with his injuries and I guess the premier league has surprised him a bit. Although he had some fantastic games for Liverpool, but the pace of the game hasn’t suited him. He’s definitely going to have a great career. But that’s not at Liverpool because signing of new midfielders and his injury has raised concerns over his future at England.” – Glen Johnson said.
Moreover, the new midfielders are having an impressive season at the club. This has only drifted all attention away from Thiago towards these new arrivals. To be more precise, the injury has been a major setback for the Spain international.
Is the Spaniard really struggling?
Criticisms are coming from all sides on Thiago Alcantara. That seems a bit unfair. We shouldn’t forget that he joined Liverpool in 2020-21 when the Reds were stacked with injuries. Furthermore, the former Bayern Munich player adjusted his style of play according to the clubs requirements.
We have seen many instances when the team was struggling and Thiago delivered for them. He did produced some moments of brilliance at England. Had it been the case of less injuries, then he’d have shown what he’s got. Let’s hope we can see his magic one more time before he leaves.
