Liverpool still hope to secure Kylian Mbappe signing

The Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe saga has been continuing for a couple of years now. It looked like the Frenchman’s next destination was Real Madrid definitely. But recent reports from Spain, suggests that Real Madrid are backing off from the Mbappe transfer race. This might spark some interests in the Liverpool camp. Liverpool have been chasing Mbappe for several years now, but his priority to move to the Spanish capital undermined the Red’s chances. But now with Madrid’s reluctance to sign Mbappe, Liverpool are back in the race to sign the superstar.

The Mbappe transfer saga continues

However, the biggest challenge Liverpool might face, is the enormous wage demands of the World Cup winner. According to reports he currently earns £1.2million-a-week at Parc des Princes and has the option to extend that deal a further 12 months. Mbappe’s contract expires in June 2024, and it’s highly unlikely that the Reds would be able to accumulate such an amount after their recent spending spree in the summer. Mbappe has previously revealed that he did talk to Liverpool about a potential move but that deal fell through after he renewed his contract at PSG. Paris Saint-Germain also does not want to part ways with their best player and are hopeful to keep him at the Parc des Princes.

If not Liverpool, then where for Mbappe?

Sources from Football Insider revealed that Man United, Man City and Chelsea are likely to be the only English sides capable of funding a deal for Mbappe. The World Cup winner has been phenomenal for the French side this season with 12 goals and an assist in 14 appearances this season. Kylian Mbappe is one of the biggest names in football right now and it will be interesting to see which club he plans for his next move.
