Man United new transfer target likely to be hijacked by Juventus

About Football Express UK

Juventus have reportedly organized an emergency meeting to persuade new Man United target to join the Old Lady instead. Man United have been eyeing up a move for English international, Kalvin Phillips from City rivals Man City. Phillips joined Man City in the summer transfer window of 2022 for £42m from Leeds United. Leeds United were just promoted in the Premier League after an impressive run under Marcelo Bielsa. And Kalvin Phillips was crucial to the Leeds squad for that season. This earned him a big move to Man City in 2022, and was expected to succeed at the Etihad immediately. But only after a few games Pep Guardiola decided to bench him. Phillips has only made 16 appearances for the Manchester club so far in almost one and a half seasons.

Pep Guardiola on Kalvin Phillips transfer from Man City

After Man City’s 2-1 win over Luton town, Pep Guardiola expressed his opinion on the Kalvin Phillips situation in a press conference. A journalist asked Pep about Kalvin’s transfer, and he replied,

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I’ve said that many times.
He doesn’t deserve what has happened to him and I’m so sorry. The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example. And after that I have to give him something and I didn’t do that. It’s just because I visualize some things and visualize the team and things – and I struggle to see him. I’m not very pleased [with myself] and I am so sorry for him. I will not say that [to him] because it is a business and I have to be a professional.”

Juventus and Man United interested in Phillips

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have scheduled an urgent meeting with Man City to discuss the transfer, before Man United can make a move. Man United have been planning to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford as a holding midfielder along with Casemiro.
