The English Football League (EFL) Championship, is also known as the Sky Bet Championship for sponsorship reasons. Meanwhile, it is one of the most competitive football leagues in the world.

The EFL Championship was founded in 2004 when the former first division of the Football League was rebranded. Prior to that, it had been known as the Football League First Division since its inception in 1888. The competition comprises 24 teams. Meanwhile, the top two teams at the end of the season were promoted to the Premier League. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth-placed teams qualify for the playoffs, with the winner also being promoted.

The main trophy awarded in the EFL Championship is the Championship Trophy. It is presented to the winners of the league. In addition, there are individual awards such as the Player of the Month, Manager of the Month, and Golden Boot for the top scorer.

The EFL Championship has a strong fan base, with passionate supporters following their teams home and away. The average attendance in the 2019-2020 season was over 20,000, with some clubs attracting over 30,000 fans to their home games. The fan culture in the Championship is diverse, with many clubs having their unique chants and traditions.

While not as wealthy as the Premier League, the EFL Championship still generates significant revenue through ticket sales, merchandise, and broadcasting rights. The broadcasting rights for the Championship were worth over £595 million in the 2019-2020 season, with the league being broadcast in over 150 countries worldwide.
