21-year-old defender ‘dreams’ of playing for Manchester City

About Football Express UK

Manchester City have successfully defended their Premier League title this season after a dramatic final day. Moreover, City have defended their title for a second time under manager Pep Guardiola. City had to come from two goals down to beat Aston Villa and end Liverpool’s quadruple hopes. Liverpool could have won the title if Villa had held on to their two-goal lead as the Reds defeated Wolves in their final fixture. However, three goals in five minutes spurned the title race back in City’s favor. As a result, the dominance of Manchester City has left a young defender aspiring to play for the Champions.

It is no secret that many players wish to play for City under Guardiola. Manchester City have created an aura with the Spanish mastermind which leaves the players in an awe of it. The latest superstar to join Manchester City is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker chose City over a host of Europe’s top clubs. Now, Rapid Wien defender Emanuel Aiwu dreams of playing for Manchester City and Guardiola. The Austrian center-back even further explained his urge to play for Cityzens.

Defender sets sight on “favorite club” Manchester City

Aiwu is currently a lesser-known name in the footballing world. However, he could be one of the future superstars given his progress at the Austrian club. Aiwu has already played 34 games for Rapid Wien in all competitions this season. Moreover, the 21-year-old has managed full 90 minutes on 29 occasions out of 34. A solid foundation of Rapid Wien’s back-line, Aiwu also played every minute of the club’s Europa League campaign.

The defender has now expressed his wish of playing for Manchester City. Speaking highly of the Premier League, Aiwu said,

“I think some leagues have their appeal, be it German, Italian, Spanish or French. For me personally, the Premier League is currently the most attractive because it is the most difficult. Every team has an enormously high quality. The pace and intensity are very high. We noticed for ourselves when we played West Ham how fast the pace was.”

He further confessed his love for City, stating,

“My favourite club is Manchester City and my favourite player is Yaya Toure, he made me a fan. It would be a dream for me to wear this jersey one day”.

The talented defender seems to have been influenced heavily by Manchester City as he hopes to make in to the Etihad one day.

Though Aiwu seems a long way off from playing for City, the center-back boasts some impressive stats in the Europa League this season. In his 6 appearances in the European competition, Aiwu racks up 2 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, and 3.3 long-balls per game. Further on, if nothing, his passing would certainly impress Pep Guardiola. The Austrian international amasses a pass completion rate of 80.2% while playing in the Europa League. However, the defender will have to wait in order to play for Manchester City as many are still in the line.
