Manchester City winger prefers Chelsea over any other club with an exit looming over his future

About Football Express UK

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling is making news as he reportedly wants a summer exit. Sterling has spent the last 7 years of his career at City but could look for a new challenge. As a result, a number of clubs have lined up in a bid to land the winger. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea are all interested in notching up the 27-year-old. However, the Telegraph reports that Sterling would prioritize a move to Chelsea if he leaves City in the summer.

Sterling joined Manchester City in 2015 from Liverpool for a fee of almost £50 million. Since then, the winger has enjoyed a trophy-laden stint with the blue part of Manchester. His 10 trophies with City include four Premier League titles, five League Cup titles, and a FA Cup. But as he enters the final year of his City contract, talks of extension have not been heard. And therefore, if the situation remains unchanged, Sterling could ask for an exit. However, the City player wants to stay in England, with Chelsea in his sights.

Chelsea favorite to land the Man City player

As Sterling’s availability in the market was sensed, Londoners Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea all showed their interest. Arsenal were even termed the closest to sign Sterling. However, it turns out that the City winger wants Chelsea. But Chelsea’s ownership situation and sanctions imposed on them could make it difficult for the Blues to welcome Sterling. Further on, Chelsea are anticipating a number of exits in the attacking department, with Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic tipped to leave.

Sterling would replace the outgoers outright if all he lands at Chelsea. Moreover, Raheem Sterling is a proven asset of English football with stints across Liverpool and City. The winger had 23 goals and 25 assists for the Reds in 129 appearances which prompted City to sign him. Sterling’s improvement went sky-high at City, as he has massive 91 goals and 56 assists in over 200 games for the club till now.

The City winger is in his prime at 27 and Chelsea would be the best step forward than Arsenal or Tottenham according to him. The report from The Telegraph states,

“Selling one or all of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic could see Chelsea consider a move for Raheem Sterling. He has one year remaining on his Manchester City contract and is yet to decide on his future. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal would also be interested in Sterling, but Chelsea would be a more attractive option at this stage of the 27-year-old’s career were he to decide against signing an extension at City.”

However, City will demand a massive fee if Chelsea comes calling for Sterling. The Premier League champions will definitely want to cash in on their winger rather than letting him go for free next year. Moreover, City could churn out a figure around the same they spent on making Sterling the most expensive English player at that time.
