ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

What is the best starting 11 for Manchester City this season?

About Football Express UK

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has entered into his sixth season in England. The Spaniard has been very successful at his time with the club and is determined to improve further.

Pep Guardiola is famous for rotating his side and cultivating competition among the players. The Manchester City squad is heavily packed with quality players fighting for the starting role.

Some Manchester City players however have been more impressive than the others. With injuries and lack of form in the squad here are our picks for the best starting 11 for the Premier League champions this season so far.

MANCHESTER CITY 11: DEFENCE

There is never a doubt on who will be between the post for Manchester City. Ederson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and at 28 is entering his prime. An excellent distributor of the ball the Brazilian will remain as their number one for a long time.

In the defence, we are going for the centre-back pairing of Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte. Dias easily makes it into the starting 11 with his quality and leadership in the backline. While John Stones seemed to have clawed back the starting berth last season, Pep Guardiola seem to have gone back to Laporte this season.

The full-back positions are also very easy to pick. Kyle Walker has been part of Guardiola’s team since signing Tottenham Hotspur and takes the right side. Joao Cancelo is also a right-back but is extensively used on the left side. He makes it into the left-back position, with his amazing performance.

MANCHESTER CITY 11: MIDFIELD

Our best Manchester City midfield of the season comprises Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. Rodri easily occupies the defensive midfield role. He replaces captain Fernandinho, who is reaching the end of his career.

De Bruyne has been the best player for Manchester City for some time. Though his output seems to have taken a hit this season, mostly due to underlying injury issues. Yet when fully fit, the Belgian is a force to reckon with.

Bernardo Silva for us is the best player for the Premier League champions this season. Guardiola seems to have provided him more freedom in the team. The Portuguese are also pushing to the opposition penalty area more this season, scoring 3 goals so far.

MANCHESTER CITY 11: ATTACK

The attack of Manchester City has been questioned by many before the season. With Sergio Aguero leaving the club, Gabriel Jesus was the only recognised striker in the team. Whereas this has made Guardiola utilize his other wingers to contribute to the goals.

Jesus is one of our choices in the attack but features on the right-wing. While the Brazilian seem to have been converted to a right-winger by Guardiola and he has been excellent in his new role. The left-wing is occupied by Jack Grealish. This was a tough choice as the former Aston Villa star has not yet hit his full potential. But the lack of confidence of Guardiola in Raheem Sterling means that he starts on the left for us.

Our City 11 is completed by Phil Foden. The 21-year-old is simply amazing operating in a false nine position for the club. He already has 5 goals for his club across all competition alongside 4 assists. His quality is another reason why the manager trusts him, especially in the big games.
