Matic wants to return to Premier League as he is unhappy at France

Former Manchester United midfielder and current Rennes player Nemanja Matic is actively seeking a comeback to the Premier League. That is due to his reported dissatisfaction with his current situation in France.

Matic signed a three-year deal with Manchester United in 2017 after making 121 appearances for Chelsea. United managed £40m to put Matic under Jose Mourinho. During his time with the Red Devils, Matic played 189 games but was unable to secure additional titles, such as the two Premier League championships, FA Cup, and League Cup. That he secured during his more successful stint at Stamford Bridge.

His closest opportunity to lifting a trophy at Old Trafford occurred in the 2021 Europa League final. In 2022, he joined Roma and participated in 35 matches for the Serie A team before making a move to Rennes a year later. Since joining Rennes, Matic has only been featuring in 13 matches for the club.

According to L’Equipe, the midfielder has dissatisfaction with his current situation at Rennes. Hence, he is actively seeking an immediate departure. Reports say that the 35-year-old is particularly eager to return to the top flight of English football, where he experienced the peak of his career.

Can Matic succesfully make a return to Premier League?

Several undisclosed clubs in the Premier League are showing interest. That is in acquiring the services of the seasoned Matic during the current winter transfer window.

Presently, Rennes occupies the 10th position in the Ligue 1 standings with 19 points. The Sun also mentions that if Matic is unable to secure a transfer to England, he is contemplating retirement. Thus, underlining his strong desire for a fresh beginning.

It is a belief that the former Manchester United player has been encountering difficulties in establishing rapport with his teammates. Meanwhile, there are complications concerning his children’s education there. Reportedly, Matic was absent from Rennes training on Tuesday. Hence, he cleared out his locker in an attempt to compel an exit from Roazhon Park.
