West Ham United to keep Brazilian midfielder after City divert their interest

Manchester United

Gianluca Di Marzio claims that West Ham may be given some breathing space in their efforts to keep Lucas Paqueta despite Manchester City’s interest since they are now eyeing RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo. A potential move for Olmo, Pep Guardiola’s “dream” replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who is anticipated to miss the next four months due to injury, was revealed by the Italian journalist. After the Hammers rejected a £80 million bid for Paqueta, City have been widely linked with a second bid. But they might have changed their minds now.

City eyeing Dani Olmo as a compatible attacking midfielder

West Ham supporters shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet, even though the potential move for Olmo might interfere with City’s move for Paqueta. The Premier League Champions’ desire to sign the West Ham star to the Eithad is well known. Therefore it would not be unexpected if they made a move for both players.

Dani Olmo is one of the finest players in the Bundesliga. The former La Masia youngster has recently shown himself to be a reliable performer. Olmo is a dynamic attacker who can play in either attacking midfield position or out wide on either flank. He would fit in well with Pep Guardiola’s system. The versatile midfielder is a favourite of the Catalan strategist, who will be familiar with him. Olmo’s experience at La Masia will make him to suit Guardiola’s system. Olmo is a good dribbler who is deadly in front of goal. He can set up goals just as readily as he can score them. His ability at spotting a pass is particularly useful and aids in breaking up strong defensive lines.

Leipzig unlikely to let go their Star man

Olmo’s transfer is certainly challenging because Leipzig won’t let their top player leave after his hat-trick vs Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup. Olmo has a release clause of £47.1 million that goes into effect in the summer of 2024. Although Leipzig might seek between £68.5 million and £85.6 million for his services this year.

Leipzig, however, is not willing to consider any offers for its best player. Fabrizio Romano has said in latest gossip about City’s pursuit of Paqueta that: “a new offer will be made in the next 24 to 48 hours”. In addition to a midfielder, City continue to fight for the signing of Jeremy Doku.
