Pep Guardiola hints he already has future Stones replacement

Manchester City Colwill

Pep Guardiola has hinted that a future John Stones replacement might already be at Man City. John Stones has been an important part of the Treble winning squad for City. The English defender is key part of City’s defensive lineup. City have other promising defenders in their squad with the likes of Rico lewis and Josko Gvardiol. Pep has named Gvardiol as a possible future replacement for the versatile John Stones. Despite currently playing as a left back, Pep is optimistic that in coming time, Gvardiol can move central in the defense and fulfil the role of John Stones in the squad.

Gvardiol can become a future star under Pep Guardiola

According to a interview given by Pep Guardiola, He believes that Gvardiol is not yet ready to switch positions centrally and needs more training to do so. But he hopes that the young defender is ready to become a versatile player like John Stones. Guardiola speaking with the Manchester Evening News, said

“Still he didn’t prove it in training sessions and some drills that we do to see how you move in more central positions. Maybe in the future, because he is 21 years old and at the beginning, we didn’t expect John could do that.”

Pep acknowledged the fact Gvardiol is still young and putting such expectations on him in this age isn’t fair as John Stones has been a part of Man City for 8 years and Gvardiol needs time to adapt. The Croatian international is only 21 years old and already one of the most promising defenders in world football. Gvardiol joined Man City in the summer from RB Leipzig, after fantastic performances in the Bundesliga. The young defender has the potential to become one of the best defenders in the world in the coming years.
