Manchester United recently announced the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager. The German will be the manager till the end of the season and will then move into a consultancy role.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Rangnick is most likely to miss out on the match against Arsenal. This is because of Visa issues and updated covid regulations.
As of now, Michael Carrick is the manager until Rangnick is cleared.
Let’s take a look at the recent form of both Manchester United and Arsenal.
Under Michael Carrick, United have played very defensively. Especially against Chelsea, the Red Devils struggled but managed to secure a point.
However, that one point has not helped them a lot since they still sit 8th in the league table. United are 5 points below Arsenal and are facing a bad run in their home games.
At Old Trafford, Manchester United have just secured a point from their last four games.
On the other hand, the Gunners are playing very well. Despite their loss against Liverpool, Arsenal won their last league game against Newcastle United. Also to their fortune, West Ham’s loss to Manchester City implies that they are at par with them in the table.
Surprisingly the lack of European football is proving to be good for Arsenal. The youngsters are settling well into the team as well as their new goalkeeper Ramsdale.
Arsenal is unbeaten in their last 6 premier league encounters against Manchester United. They haven’t conceded a goal against them since September 2019.
Team news and injury updates.
For Manchester United
The Red Devils centre back Harry Maguire has returned from suspension and he is likely to drop Eric Bailly. This is rather unfair because of Maguire’s shaky and inconsistent performances.
Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane are injured as well. Alex Telles has been incredible playing as a replacement for Luke Shaw. Perhaps if he keeps up his form and shows better defensive qualities, he can start regularly.
Earlier Michael Carrick chose to bench Ronaldo, many fans criticised his decision. Somehow Manchester United got away with a point but he will play him in an important match like this. Ronaldo will play instead of Marcus Rashford. If Carrick plays them in a 4-3-1-2 formation then Rashford will be on the bench.
For Arsenal
Against Newcastle, Saka went down facing muscular pain. This facilitates game time for Martinelli which he certainly deserves. Sead Kolasinac has an ankle injury whereas Granit Xhaka has a knee injury.
It was inevitable that sooner or later Lacazette would find his way to the bench. The board had earlier made it clear that they will remove anything which hinders their youngsters’ development. Martin Odegaard has found his place in the starting XI instead of Lacazette.
