MANCHESTER UNITED DEFENDER LIKELY TO MISS THE REST OF THE SEASON

According to Athletic, Manchester United defender Phil Jones has not yet recovered from his injury issues. The report also claims that the defender is working to solve the issues from the start of the season. However, the defender has not managed to complete one training session under Erik Ten Hag. Therefore, it is unlikely that he will feature even in the squad.

Manchester United have also not registered him with the squad in the Europa League. Therefore, the Red Devils are likely to start Victor Lindelöf and Harry Maguire against Sevilla. Whereas, Raphael Varane still has hope of playing for the remainder. However, Lisandro Martinez is out for the rest of the season. Whereas, there is a high chance that Jones will finally leave the club.

RED DEVILS HAVE NO INTENTION OF OFFERING PHIL JONES A CONTRACT EXTENSION

According to reports, Manchester United are unlikely to offer Phil Jones a contract extension. The original deal also has the option to extend the deal for one more season. However, the Red Devils are also unlikely to take the option. Hence, it is likely that Phil Jones will be one of the many players part of the clear out in the next summer transfer window.

Manchester United are determined to sign a marquee striker in the next summer transfer window. Hence, they will first need to release or sell some of the fringe players in the squad. Phil Jones currently earns around 40,000-45,000 pounds per week. Hence, releasing him at the end of his contract at the end of the season is a good solution for all the parties.

The Manchester United defender still has a number of years left on his playing career. Hence, Championship clubs are keeping an eye on his situation. However, Phil Jones will have to take a pay-cut to sign for the Championship clubs.
