Manchester City are reportedly preparing a bid for FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong. The Premier League giants also see him as the long-term replacement to Ilkay Gundogan.
Manchester United also remain long-term admirers of the midfielder. However, the Dutch midfielder is happy at the La Liga club.
MANCHESTER CITY AND FRENKIE DE JONG TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY
According to reports, Manchester City are preparing a mega bid for Frenkie De Jong. The report also claims that the Premier League giants are preparing a bid of 90 million. It is also unclear whether the player is open to a move to the current Champions League holders. However, Pep Guardiola has De Jong’s name high on the list.
Hence, Manchester City are ready to give high pay-rise on his current wages to push for the move. This is also because they have already missed out on signing Declan Rice to Arsenal. Whereas, Kalvin Philips is also linked to a move to West Ham to replace Declan Rice. They have also lost Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer to FC Barcelona.
THE DUTCH MIDFIELDER HAS PREVIOUSLY REJECTED A MOVE TO MANCHESTER UNITED IN THE LAST SUMMER TRANSFER
According to reports, Frenkie De Jong has already rejected Premier League offer in the last summer transfer window. He rejected a move to Manchester United. Hence, Manchester City are wary of his reluctance to leave FC Barcelona. Frenkie De Jong has also asserted himself as one of star players last season under manager Xavi.
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta also confirmed that he rejected offers for the Dutch midfielder. The La Liga giants see him as one of the non-transferable players. However, Manchester City are aware of their financial situation. Hence, it looks like they will try to make a offer in the end of this summer transfer window.
This is also because Manchester City have different priorities. They are in advanced talks to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol for 100 million. They are also aware that Frenkie De Jong will not leave easily as his fiancé is expecting a child.
