Kalvin Philips to leave City, A possible Leeds return?

Manchester City FA Cup

Manchester City signed Kalvin Philips in July 2022

Kalvin Philips signed a 6 year contract with the club last year but is rumored to be leaving in just a year.

The 27-year-old has spent a considerable amount of time either out injured or on the bench.

Kalvin Philips has managed only 56 minutes of Premier League action

His only starts have been against Bristol City and Southampton in the cups.

Guardiola has spoken many times that Philips needs to raise his game to compete with Rodri for a place in the team.

But when he returned to Manchester, Kalvin Philips still got a place in the England World Cup squad.

Guardiola said” He was ‘not injured’ but ‘arrived overweight’

And therefore wasn’t ‘in the condition to do training sessions and to play” for City.

There is also interest from Newcastle United, Leicester City and Wolves.

Leeds United is reportedly interested in re-signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Kalvin Philips joined the Leeds Academy aged 14.

Before he worked his way up through the youth ranks until he made his first-team debut in April 2015.

The England international went on to make 234 appearances for Leeds the first time around and scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists.

The report claims that Leeds attempted to sign Phillips on loan in January, but their proposal was rejected by the Premier League champions.

The departure of Ilkay Gundogan

A potential summer move will depend on whether Leeds can secure their Premier League status.

With the club only being two points clear of the bottom three.

Some reports suggest due to the potential departure of Ilkay Gundogan, City might not let Kalvin Philips leave.

They’re unwilling to weaken that midfield any further.

Barcelona are leading the race for Gundogan.

And discussions with his representatives have taken place about a free transfer this summer.

City wants to keep him but Barca is optimistic

Barcelona FC are ready to get a deal done as the player is ready for a new challenge. So, it seems Kalvin Philips’s future might depend upon Gundogan’s transfer
