Jaap Stam says £82m signing is not on Man United level

Manchester United

Legendary defender Jaap Stam has expressed his opinion on Man United signing Antony. He claimed that the Brazilian is not on Man United level in his performances. Antony has been the recipient of lot of sticks from the United fans and former players. With a hefty price tag of £82m, he hasn’t produced on such level. Antony has also been struggling with injuries in his short spell for the Man United side. The winger is yet to score or assist a single goal in his 17 appearances so far this season. Antony was excellent playing for Ajax when the former Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag decided to bring him at the Old Trafford. But ever since his transfer to Man United, Antony has been largely inconsistent.

Jaap Stam on Ten Hag’s decision to sign Antony

Talking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Stam said,

“Antony is not, I don’t think, from what I have seen from him. He is not good enough for this level we are looking for at United. Because you are also looking for a player when he comes in he can struggle and have a difficult time, but you are still looking at a player thinking where is he making progress so he can get to a certain level.
When you look at Antony now, at this moment, you don’t really see where he can make the progress needed to make that next step into the Premier League to be up there with the top wingers.”

Jaap Stam remarks would be widely agreed by the Man United fans as they are of similar opinion on the Brazilian.

Ten Hag has been criticized for his choices in transfer window

Antony, Sancho, Varane are some names among United signings which did not perform as expected by them and their valuations. It’s been evident that Man United’s transfer policy is somewhat flawed along with their club’s officials. The fans have been demanding a change of Ownership since years.
