Hearing Aston Villa supporters jeering Jack Grealish left BBC pundit speechless

Manchester City

After hearing Jack Grealish being jeered at by Aston Villa supporters at the Etihad Stadium, Clinton Morrison was left speechless on BBC Radio 5 Live.

In their matchup with Manchester City today, Unai Emery’s team got off to a terrible start. Rodri gave the Premier League champions the lead after only five minutes.

Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez added two more goals for Pep Guardiola’s team before the break. But Villa significantly improved in the second period.

Just after the hour mark, Ollie Watkins scored what ended up being a consolation goal. But Emery won’t be too discouraged by today’s performance.

Naturally, Villa faced Grealish. The villains’ supporters jeering him shocked Morrison. That too in the opening moments of the game.

Morrison shocked after hearing booes for Grealish

Grealish moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2021 after paying a staggering £100 million transfer price.

It’s fair to say that the 27-year-decision old’s to leave Villa Park, where he had played his whole career, didn’t sit well with the supporters.

Furthermore, Grealish’s reception shocked Morrison.

“I’m surprised Grealish is getting booed. He is a boyhood fan, they got a lot of money for him but they are booing him,” the BBC pundit said.

“Oh well, I suppose that happens in football, no loyalty nowadays.”

Grealish was right in the middle of the action today. Also if he wants Villa supporters to react better in the future, he will have done himself no favours.

The England international appeared to have barely made contact with Jacob Ramsey’s charge before going down easily to win a penalty for City today.

Emery’s squad responded courageously in the second half. They consistently placed City under significant pressure. Before Jhon Duran hit the post in stoppage time, Philippe Coutinho significantly improved the team’s performance from the bench.

However, with a challenging match against Arsenal coming up, Emery will be able to learn a lot from today’s defeat.
