City to part ways with player due to “difficult relations” with Pep Guardiola

Manchester City Colwill

Man City are looking to get rid of Portuguese right back João Cancelo in the summer. The player has been on loan at Barcelona this season, with the Catalan club hoping to keep him. There hasn’t been an agreed transfer fee yet between the two clubs, but reports suggest Barcelona want a €30 million valuation. Man City however, value the player at atleast €50 million. It’s up to negotiations between the Catalan and Manchester side to decide the exact price for the player. Barcelona have been greatly impressed with the player’s performance this season in LaLiga. And Man City do not want to retain him due to the player’s sour relations with Pep Guardiola.

Cancelo’s wish to stay at Barcelona

The player wants to stay at Barcelona beyond his loan deal. It was Cancelo himself who insisted on a move to the Catalan side, but could only secure a loan deal. Now that Man City want to get rid of him, he prioritises Barcelona over any club. Before his loan move, there were interests for him from various clubs, most notably from Arsenal. Mikel Arteta wanted to bring Cancelo in Arsenal but the player snubbed the Gunners for the Blaugrana. Negotiations might become difficult for Man City as the player and the catalan club both want to stay at the Camp Nou.

‘Difficult relations’ with Pep Guardiola

Everything happening regarding the exit of João Cancelo is due to sour relations with the Man City boss Pep Guardiola. According to AS, the disagreement started with the loss against United in the Manchester derby in January. Pep Guardiola didn’t like something about the way Cancelo played and decided to drop him to the bench for next several games. Cancelo then reportedly expressed disappointment about Pep’s decisions with some teammates which didn’t sit well with the Spaniard. After a while, Guardiola spoke to Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano and asked them to find a new club for Cancelo.
