Transfers: Tottenham agrees two year deal with Fraser Forster

Tottenham Hotspur

Fraser Forster has accepted a 2 year deal with Tottenham. Forster will be arriving on a free from Southampton as he has passed his medicals. Forster, 34, will be a backup for the first-choice Hugo Lloris.

Fraser Forster is the second free transfer Tottenham have made this Summer along with Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. The deal for Forster will run until the end of the 2024 season. Moreover, there were reports earlier suggesting Forster had to agree to a pay cut at Tottenham.

Forster had a 5-year contract at Southampton which netted him a figure close to 5m. However, at Tottenham, he had to take a sufficient pay cut which he has agreed on.

Forster was the first-choice keeper for Southampton during the second half of the season over Alex Mcarthy. He started in 24 appearances across all competitions with 19 of them coming in the Premier League.

Coincidentally, this is not the first time Tottenham have signed an experienced goalkeeper as a backup. A couple of years, back in 2020, Tottenham had acquired the services of Joe Hart.

What’s next for Tottenham

Tottenham have got Ivan Perisic on a free from Inter Milan. Perisic was a very vital part of the Inter Milan squad that won the Scudetto last year. Moreover, Conte was the manager and it can be understood both have a great relationship. Perisic will be looking to bring his experience to the squad.

Moreover, Conte would be targeting a top 4 finish in the next season and a deep run in the Champions League. Conte would also be hoping for a couple of trophies to end Tottenham’s curse. A couple of domestic trophies – The FA cup or Carabao cup would certainly help Tottenham’s cause. However, the management needs to put their faith in Conte, something they haven’t done in a while.
