Arsenal could be in for another splashing summer with deals for Jesus and Gnabry

Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal over the last few years are not new to huge spending in the transfer market. The Gunners have done more so under the ownership of Kroenke Sports and Entertainment since 2019. Therefore, this summer could also be the one where Arsenal splashes the cash. Moreover, with the signings they are pursuing, they will certainly have to sign bigger cheques this summer. Arsenal have their plans ready for the market and are planning moves for Gabriel Jesus, Youri Tielemans, Serge Gnabry, and Aaron Hickey. However, these signings will definitely demand the Gunners to break their bank.

Arsenal were on course for a top-four finish this season, only to miss out due to poor results of late. The Gunners lost their Champions League berth to their bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur. As a result, Mikel Arteta has already highlighted that the club needs a big summer to fight for Champions League spots on regular basis. And furthermore, has targeted the likes of high-profile signings in Jesus and Gnabry for Arsenal. Moreover, they could trust their owner Stan Kroenke as well to support their manager.

Arteta sends a clear message to the owners over transfers

While speaking ahead of the last game of the season, Arteta outlined what needs to be done in order to take the club back to the top. The boss started,

“Overall looking back you have to be clear with what we have to do, but very clear as well that this is not where we want to be. We want to be in a completely different position, challenging with the top teams. That’s the aim. This is not going to stop here.”

He further claimed that Arsenal needs to be on the track like last summer, spending a massive £150 million on transfers.

“Now we have the real strong foundations now to build what we want to do. We are going to have certain resources. Not unlimited resources, certain resources. With those resources, we have to do what we have to do in the best possible way. We don’t know what the rest are going to have in terms of resources, which I assume is going to be challenging because now it’s not a top-three, or top-four league, there’s a top eight, or 10 teams that are involved. That’s why we have to find a way to do again what we did last summer.”

Kroenke’s backing could get Arsenal the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Serge Gnabry

Stan Kroenke was definitely not a man liked by many of the Arsenal supporters, until the last summer. Kroenke gave Arsenal a whopping £150 million budget to spend on signings. Arteta and Edu utilized it in buying Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Benjamin White, Nuno Tavares, Sambi Lokonga, and Martin Odegaard. Now Arsenal wants to take the next step, in acquiring the likes of Jesus, Gnabry, Tielemans, and Hickey for this summer. The Gunners could well achieve their targets given Kroenke’s spending spree since his takeover.

Under Kroenke, Arsenal spent £138 million in his first summer transfer window in 2019. Nicolas Pepe arrived for a club-record fee of £72 million, followed by Kieran Tierney (£25 million), William Saliba (£27 million), David Luiz (£8 million), and Gabriel Martinelli (£6 million). Further on, in the summer of 2020 Kroenke helped the club with £80 million. Thomas Partey (£45 million), Gabriel Magalhaes (£27 million), Pablo Mari (£7 million), and Runar Alex Runarsson (£1 million) arrived. Now fresh reports suggest that Arteta could get another £100 million this summer to spend. As a result, Arsenal would be in a realistic position to sign their prime targets Gabriel Jesus, Serge Gnabry, Youri Tielemans, and Aaron Hickey.
