2018: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£56m)

In 2018, a club record fee was paid when Arsenal got their hands on Borussia Dortmund player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They paid the fee of £56m and finalized the deal on the January Deadline Day. It was quite a buy. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued to strike just as much as previously and ended up winning the Golden Boot the following season. Aubameyang was the quickest player to reach 50 PL goals for Arsenal and led his team to the FA CUP win in season 2019/20. After a quick stop by Barcelona, he moved to Chelsea where he’s playing now.

2011: Fernando Torres (£50m)

One of the biggest January Deadline Day shocks was probably when the Liverpool hero Fernando Torres was sold to Chelsea in 2011. Torres switched clubs for the sum of £50m which was the highest fee in the Premier League at the time. He couldn’t keep up with the level of goals he produced at Liverpool. He did manage to score a very famous goal in 2012 in the Champions League semi-finals.

2011: Andy Carroll (£35m)

When Liverpool lost their main man Torres in 2011, they replaced him with a few different talented strikers. One of them was Andy Carrol which they bought for quite a big sum of £35m from Newcastle United. Unfortunately, the risk didn’t pay off. Carroll had a hard time at Liverpool and moved to West Ham after only two seasons.

2010: Luis Suarez (£22,8m)

On Deadline Day on 09/10, the major Ajax striker Luis Suarez made the move to Liverpool. Liverpool paid £22,8m which actually was a club record for a few hours. But hours later they bought Andy Carrol for £35m breaking the record once again. Unlike Carrol, Suarez fit perfectly and ended up staying at Liverpool until 2014 scoring plenty of goals. Suarez then left Liverpool for Barcelona where he ended up staying until 2020.
