Striker top of the transfer priority list for Manchester City

About Football Express UK

Manchester City considers the centre-forward areas the main point for reinforcement as they plan for the next transfer. The main targets for the Premier League champions seem to be Harry Kane and Erling Braut Haaland.

This is according to reports coming from Daily Mirror. The reports suggest that Manchester City is keen to transfer a new striker to an already deadly attack.

The city has been linked with Harry Kane in the last transfer window, but could not complete the deal. However this time around, the Blue half of Manchester have widened their options, with Haaland emerging as the prime candidate.

SITTING COMFORTABLY AT THE MOMENT

Manchester City has been in terrific form this season, especially in the league. Though they were knocked out from the Carabao Cup, they remain in contention to win a treble.

Currently, the Citizens are top of the league table, 13 points clear of second-placed Chelsea, at the time of writing. They are on a 12 match winning streak in the Premier League. If they can continue with it, they could wrap up the league title very early.

But the main target for Manchester City and manager Pep Guardiola has been the Champions League. They came close to winning it in the last season, only to lose 1-0 against Chelsea in the final. The club will be hopeful of doing one better this time as they chase that elusive title.

Manchester City does have one of the best squads in the world, with quality players competing with each other for the starting berth. However, there are still areas the Citizens could improve. And if reports are to be believed the club are already preparing for it.

MANCHESTER CITY TRANSFER PRIORITY

The centre-forward position is arguably the main area Manchester City needs to strengthen. Though the team is performing exceptionally well in attack, they do need a proper number nine in the squad. While Gabriel Jesus is present, Guardiola seems to prefer him in wider areas than in the centre of the attack.

Since the departure of club legend Sergio Aguero from the team, there is an absence of a striker who can bag plenty of goals. Adding a good centre-forward hence will help to add more dimensions to their attack.

The club has been keen to bring Harry Kane, though was not able to do so. Tottenham Hotspur was not ready to sell their star player, even though the player wanted a move away. Pep Guardiola is an admirer of the England captain, but it now seems that they could switch their attention to another player.

This is because Manchester City now looks like one of the leading candidates in the race for the signature of Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has been explosive for Borussia Dortmund and will see his release clause get activated in the summer of 2022.

Dortmund has been pressuring Haaland about his future and it seems like he will be making it clear in the coming weeks. Real Madrid was reported as the front-runner, yet the report suggests Guardiola is now pushing for the Norwegian. The report also suggested that Manchester City have held talks with Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid. But the transfer looks unlikely as the Brazilian have been vital for Los Blancos this season.

As the season draws closer towards its business end, clubs are already planning. Manchester City is currently comfortable but might change the gear if they are not able to progress further in the Champions League. Come the next season it is clear that Citizens will bring in a centre-forward. The only big question will be who is that going to be?
