The Spanish news source Fichajes claims that Manchester City will shortly try to sign Julian Alvarez to a new deal. Several teams, notably Real Madrid and Barcelona, are interested in signing the World Cup-winning striker. The Premier League champions, though, seem unwilling to let him go.
In his own country, Julian Alvarez became well-known, helping River Plate win the league championship in 2021. High-profile clubs all throughout Europe began to show interest in him at that point. And in the competition to hire the Argentine international in January 2022, Manchester City prevailed. His stock has increased significantly since then.
For Manchester City, the 23-year-old has steadily gained prominence, scoring nine goals and dishing out two assists in 29 games. Alvarez has achieved success on the international scene as well, helping Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Moreover, Barcelona and Real Madrid have become interested in the player’s development.

Barcelona and Real Madrid need fresh talents like Alvarez
Karim Benzema has been playing at his peak for Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid over the past six years. The Frenchman, though, is approaching the end of his career and is no longer a young guy. The Real Madrid captain has also experienced some fitness concerns this year.
Real Madrid will need a successor as Mariano Diaz is expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer. Alvarez has also become a potential target. The World Cup champion striker can initially split playing time with Endrick before vying for the starting striker position. Yet, Barcelona will offer serious competition to Real Madrid in the race to sign the Argentina international.
The fact that Robert Lewandowski is getting older is what has Barcelona interested. This season, the Polish striker has excelled for the Blaugrana. Lewandowski is far into his thirties, similar to Benzema. Barcelona will also need to prepare for life without the seasoned center-forward. But, Manchester City will try to sign the kid to a fresh deal.
The Premier League winners do not want to jeopardise Alvarez’s future despite the fact that he only joined the Etihad last summer. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Manchester City will try to offer the World Cup-winning striker a new contract. And it’s unlikely that he’ll be signed by Barcelona or Real Madrid very soon.
