According to reports, Manchester City has prioritised Julian Alvarez in their upcoming round of contract negotiations with the senior club.
The Argentina international is first in line to receive a new contract, according to the Mirror. Manchester City looks to lock down their most often used players this season to better contracts. Alvarez has excelled in his debut season in England.
The 23-year-old forward joined City in the summer after signing with the Manchester giants the previous year. Alvarez has been a productive forward for Pep Guardiola’s team and a terrific Erling Haaland backup.
The record-breaking exploits of the Norwegian international have garnered all the attention this season. But, Alvarez has been given the freedom to flourish in the background. Many City supporters believe the forward will eventually take over as the team’s centre forward.

Manchester City prioritize Julian Alvarez
In fact, City prioritising Alvarez says a lot about how much the Manchester team wants to retain the South American striker. Players like Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake are also up for new deals.
Last year in Qatar, the young player was instrumental in Argentina’s victory. City are wise to try to sign Alvarez to a new contract so soon after he officially joined the Manchester giants.
Notwithstanding the bombshell statement the Premier League made about City at the beginning of the month and the Manchester team continuing with business as usual, it makes sense that Guardiola is now considering future-proofing the team.
With no one knowing what will happen to City in the coming months as a result of their Premier League violations, the Etihad Stadium team made a wise decision in signing Alvarez to a new contract in order to protect their most valuable assets. The Argentine is a player who could stay in Manchester for quite some time.
