Match Preview and Line-ups: Manchester City vs Liverpool

About Football Express UK

The annual curtain raiser is back with the Community Shield as Liverpool are set to lock horns with Manchester City this Saturday.

This marks the 131st edition of the Shield that is to take place at a neutral venue at King Power Stadium. Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp will cross swords for the first time this season with many more duels to come.

Both the clubs have made marquee signings with Erling Haaland joining the Cityzens and Darwin Nunez joining the Reds. However, many consider this as a ‘glorified pre-season‘ match, fans of the clubs would look forward to watching them play.

Line-ups: Manchester City vs Liverpool

Manchester City have concluded their pre-season campaign with all their new signings making their mark on the pitch. The Mancunian side will hope to lift the shield this year after losing it last summer to Leicester City.

Both Liverpool and City have previously clashed in the community shield fixture back in 2019 when Pep’s men emerged victorious. However, this year could be different for Klopp’s men as they seem very optimistic and could have a positive start.

Of the four matches, Liverpool took part in during the pre-season, they have had two losses and two wins. Certainly, Klopp is still figuring a way to balance his squad before the regular season gets underway.

Whereas, Pep’s men played two matches and had a 100%-win record before they take on the Reds this Saturday. Guardiola is still looking to make a few more signings before the transfer window concludes.

In any case, both the teams look to be in decent shape as they have been in recent years. Here is how the two clubs could potentially line up in the Community Shield.

Manchester City Potential Lineup: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Stones, Cancelo; Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish

Liverpool Potential Lineup: Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Firmino, Diaz
