Manchester United are closer to sign Andre Onana this summer

Manchester United appear to have secured their first summer acquisition after negotiating a £60 million agreement with Chelsea for Mason Mount on Thursday. However their summer transfer aspirations seems not yet finished. Erik Ten Hag is thought to be thinking about bringing in a new goalkeeper in view of the uncertainty surrounding David De Gea’s future. Red Devils is thought to have made contact with Inter Milan about their custodian, who might cost around £50 million.

Manchester United has ‘agreed’ to pay £50 million for the African goalkeeper

According to United sources, Red Devils has not yet reached an official decision on David de Gea’s future.
De Gea’s contract ends in less than 40 hours. But club insiders suggested two weeks ago that the situation for extending De Gea’s contract was not as promising as it had been at the beginning of the month.

According to The Athletic, despite United offered De Gea a new contract with a lower salary, Ten Hag chose to withdraw the club’s offer before reverting with an even lower salary. As a result, despite signing the original offer, the 32-year-old is unsure what to do with the amended offer. While De Gea’s future is uncertain, Inter Milan’s Andre Onana has been extensively linked with becoming the Spaniard’s successor.

Following their time together at Ajax, Onana knows Ten Hag well. Hence according to a recent Guardian report, the Cameroon goalkeeper ‘wants to catch up’ with his old manager again.

By the end of the day, United might be a lot closer to signing Andre Onana. According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, United and Inter will meet for the first time today to discuss a prospective transfer. According to Gazzetta, Manchester United have ‘agreed’ to pay the amount sought by Inter, i.e. 50 million euros plus bonuses, in order attract the 27-year-old.

Inter Milan are already looking for Onana’s successor

After another successful season, Inter Milan’s top player has seen his worth soar up. Onana delivered another excellent performance that helped the Nerazzurri reach the Champions League final last season. Last season, Onana had the most clean sheets in the Champions League. Also in the knockout stages, he only conceded only two goals out of seven games. Moreover in 24 Serie A games, the 27-year-old kept eight clean sheets. Besides from his positioning and shot-stopping ability, the goalie is quick on his feet. This is why Erik ten Hag has asked Man Utd to wrap up the signing as soon as possible.

According to the latest rumours, Inter are already planning moves for Anatolij Trubin or Keylor Navas if they decide to part ways with Onana. Thus, it will be interesting to see if Andre Onana turns out to be a ‘wall’ for Manchester United.
