In order to turn Joao Cancelo’s loan with a buyout option into a permanent acquisition, Barcelona is willing to accept a condition of the loan agreement. Cancelo of Manchester City has been strongly linked with the Blaugrana. Therefore reports are claiming that a loan with an option to buy agreement would be finalised by this week. Defender Joao Cancelo of Manchester City will have his medical tests on Friday after departing on loan to Barcelona, according to journalist Achraf Ben Ayad. Moreover, although the full-back’s medical exams are scheduled for Friday, the player is actually awaiting approval from both teams. He’s going to fly to Barcelona on Thursday once everything is complete.
Manchester City might loan out Cancelo to Barcelona
It has come to light in recent days that Cancelo will be moving to Barcelona in just a few days.
Due to issues in the Financial Fair Play, the Catalan squad was first compelled to leave the operation.
However, the Blaugrana now have room on the squad thanks to Ousmane Dembele’s permanent transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. The Catalans’ major goal during the current transfer window was to sign the 29-year-old Portuguese right-back. From July Xavi Hernandez was leading the charge to sign him.
For the loan agreement worth just over €30 million, Cancelo will be heading to Barcelona from City on a season-long loan. The loan agreement comes with an optional condition-based buy clause. According to SER Catalunya (via MD), the €25 million buy option would be activated immediately at the end of the season : “if Barcelona advanced to the Champions League knockout(Round of 16) stages.”
This is something that the Blaugrana haven’t accomplished in either of the previous two seasons, but it’s one of their main objectives this year.
Since there are now no full-fledged right-backs on the roster, Cancelo’s transfer will be a great relief for the team. It should be mentioned that Xavi has been pressing for a right-back’s arrival throughout the summer. Cancelo is highly unlikely to be a part of the away side that plays Villarreal this weekend. However if he passes his medical test on Friday and joins Barcelona training session. He might, however, make his debut on September 3 against Osasuna.
