Erling Haaland less involvement in Build-Up concerns Guardiola

About Football Express UK

Manchester City has to find new methods to include Erling Haaland, according to Pep Guardiola.

At the weekend, the 22-year-old failed to score against neighborhood rivals United as Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils rallied from a goal down to defeat them 2-1 at a boisterous Old Trafford. Manchester City looked less aggressive and consistent as their star man Erling Haaland was less involved in the game.

Even after having scored 21 Premier League goals, his inability to participate in the game was a clear concern for Manchester City.

Manchester City Player Erling Haaland Poor Game Involvement against Manchester United

In fact, during the full 90 minutes of Manchester City play, Erling only touched the ball 19 times, many of which came after he had dropped deep during slow stages of play. He also only had one attempt blocked during that time.

Furthermore, in comparison to a well-organized United, Manchester City were less dangerous, and Guardiola has recognized the Premier League leaders need to find a way to include Erling Haaland more.

“At the moment we have that process because when teams are sat in their 18-yard box, it is more difficult but we have to find him a little bit more, yes,”

 Guardiola said.

“(Against United) he had enough touches but it’s true that when you are looking at areas and you have to look at him. But we will do it.”

The Spaniard went on to comment on Erling Haaland and City’s recent inconsistent play:

“I would say the inconsistency was in terms of results but not performances. In general, (but) not against Southampton, we were consistent in our games.

“Of course, against Everton we played better, but they had one shot on target and we drew. They punished you when before it didn’t happen, we always found a way to get the results.”

“If we play good or bad, we always had that chance. I think this is our strength and we have to improve but in terms of performance, I think we are consistent.”

After easily defeating rivals Tottenham in north London 2-0 on Sunday, City currently trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by eight points.
