As well as this, the report goes on to say that Ten Hag and the coaching staff want to see the teenager alongside another United midfielder, Mason Mount.

Mount has not had the best start to life at Old Trafford and his recent injury looks set to keep him out for a few weeks.

Pairing the former Chelsea midfielder with Mainoo could be the key midfield duo to get the best out of each other.
