Leicester City boosted by Fofana injury update

About Football Express UK

Leicester City has reasons to cheer as Wesley Fofana is recovering well from his injury. The French defender is reported to be in the final stages of his recovery and could be back soon to team training.

According to reports as well as from the interview with Leicester manager Brendon Rodgers, the player could return in February. Fofana broke his leg and had an ankle ligament injury during the preseason match against Villareal and has not featured since.

It has been an underwhelming season for the Foxes and one of the main reasons for this has been the injuries. Fofana is one among the many players that Leicester have missed during the season due to injury.

RODGERS GIVE UPDATE ON FOFANA INJURY

When Fofana met with his injury before the start of the season, manager Brendon Rodgers gave a timeline of the new year for his return. However, it now seems that Fofana will be returning most probably in February.

“He looks really good out on the field. He’s been out with the sports scientists and rehabilitation team. As you can imagine as a young player, he’s champing at the bit to get back.”

“It’s about managing and nursing him through this period. It’s been a long period of time now and these are now the final stages of it, and hopefully he will be joining the squad again at some point in February. But there’s not a specific date.” – said Rodgers.

INJURY EFFECTING LEICESTER SEASON

Leicester City is currently sitting 10th in the Premier League table. The Foxes have 25 points from 18 matches they have played. They have qualified for the next round of FA Cup, but could not progress to the next stage of Europa League.

Injuries have impacted Leicester dearly, especially in the defence. Currently, apart from Fofana, Jonny Evans, Ricardo Pereira, Timothy Castagne, and Ryan Bertrand are all out. The club also has other injuries in the squad, while some players have left for the AFCON cup with their nations.

Fofana returning from injury will surely boost the Foxes. With the season reaching its business end, getting positive results and going on a good run will be important for Leicester to compete for the European places.
