Arsenal is reportedly ready to sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint Germain.
The Gunners are in dire need of midfielders after losing out on many options. Partey is playing at AFCON whereas Xhaka has tested positive for COVID 19. As a result, Arteta was forced to play Patino and Sambi Lokonga in their recent FA Cup clash.
According to Fichajes, Arteta has already confirmed that Arsenal will try to get Georginio Wijnaldum from PSG. The report also states that PSG will at least ask £15 million for Wijnaldum.
Ian Wright stated that
“I saw Wijnaldum’s name linked with Arsenal,”. “That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG.
“Someone like that in the midfield. Of that experience. He is a Premier League winner. Just to help with the youngsters and a Sambi Lokonga just to keep it going.
Georginio is struggling at PSG and is taking time to settle. He has a contract with The French outfit till 2024.
How can Georginio Wijnaldum fit in at Arsenal?
Gini Wijnaldum initially started his career playing as an attacking midfielder. He is a regular goalscorer for his national team for whom he scored 9 goals in 2019. When he was at Newcastle and PSV, Wijnaldum scored double figures including a great hat-trick against Norwich. Wijnaldum was also the star of a historical comeback against Barcelona in which he scored a brace. However, the situation changed entirely at Liverpool because Klopp gave him a much more disciplined role.
His main role at Liverpool was to provide space and cover for the fullbacks. Gini lacks creativity but that does not explain the full picture. Wijnaldum at Liverpool was not one to score goals or provide assists. He does not have flashy dribbling abilities or great passing technique but is excellent in passing. Gini is a master at inaccurate passing as well as ball retention. In 2020 he had 125 successful passes in the final third. Wijnaldum offers to play a sacrificing role in a complicated team for better offensive players than him.
However, Georginio Wijnaldum can play a different role at Arsenal, perhaps as an attacking midfielder like he was in the past.
