Liverpool closing on a deal to sign Luis Diaz from Porto

About Football Express UK

Liverpool is reportedly close to signing Luis Diaz from Porto. The Scousers are ready to pay £60 million for the Colombian international.

Several European clubs are monitoring his situation. Luis has scored 14 goals and has 5 assists in 24 appearances for Porto this season.

According to the Sun, Liverpool is closing in on a £60 million deal with Porto for Luis Diaz. The report also states that The Scousers are looking for a replacement for Salah and Mane with the duo at AFCON.

Currently, Luis Diaz has a £67 million release clause with Liverpool looking to get him for a significantly lesser value.

Is Luis Diaz good enough to succeed at Liverpool?

Luis Diaz is a winger with great ball control, power and excellent composure. In his first season itself, he helped Porto to win the Primeira Liga after scoring 14 goals in 50 games. In the following season, he scored 6 goals and had 5 assists in 30 appearances. This was a decent season but it was enough for him to get in the Colombian National Team.

Diaz played excellently at the Copa America 2021. He helped his team to reach the third spot in the tournament. Luis finished the tournament with 4 goals which are the same as that of Lionel Messi. The Colombian National Team managed to beat Uruguay in the Round of 8. After that, they faced Argentina in which Luis scored a stunner to equalise the score. Unfortunately for him, Argentina then won on penalties.

Overall Luis Diaz did display his potential throughout the season but he might not play much at Liverpool. Currently, at Liverpool, there is no space in the Starting XI for him. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Jota have cemented their positions whereas Firmino is struggling to get gametime.

Luis Diaz can definitely fit in at Liverpool on paper but in reality, it will be very difficult for him.
