Kieran Trippier joins Newcastle United from Atletico Madrid

About Football Express UK

Kieran Trippier has reportedly joined Newcastle United after agreeing on personal terms with them a few days ago. Atletico Madrid sold him for a fee of £12 million which is quite a bargain for the Magpies.

The England international has previously played in the Premier League as well, amassing 108 appearances for Burnley and Spurs.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the medical has also been completed, Trippier to Newcastle is a done deal.

Kieran himself desired to join the Premier League and the transfer to the Magpies is much needed. Eddie Howe’s side has conceded the most goals in the league (42). The signing is not only important defensively but also holds historical importance since Trippier is Newcastle’s first signing after the takeover.

How can Trippier help Newcastle United as they face relegation?

Newcastle United are currently 19th in the table with just 11 points in 19 games.

The Magpies have set a disappointing record in 2021. They conceded 80 goals throughout the calendar year which is the most conceded by a Premier League team.

Since the start of the 2021/22 season, they have conceded 42 goals in just 19 games. Newcastle United just like Crystal Palace has dropped points from winning positions.

The Newcastle defenders have also allowed most shots on goal. These facts prove that their defence is very leaky and needs improvement.

On a positive note, manager Eddie Howe is already familiar with Kieran Trippier. Eddie coached Trippier when both of them were with Burnley in the Championship 10 years ago. After that, a lot has changed and developed, especially for Kieran. The England international has become one of the best right-backs in Europe and has also achieved success with Atletico Madrid. Under Diego Simeone, he has flourished and won the La Liga title with them.

When talking about his defensive abilities, Kieran is not the best but is certainly amongst the top defenders. His creativity and crosses are his specialities. Trippier turned up for his country in the Euros 2020 final after assisting Luke Shaw.

Overall Kieran Trippier is a quite balanced player with lots of experience and can certainly help Newcastle escape the relegation zone.
