Cristiano Ronaldo is said to have left Old Trafford before the whole 90 minutes was played against Rayo Vallecano in their last pre-season match. Ronaldo returned to this match after a long break. He was not with the squad during the entire pre-season tour.
United had allowed him to be absent from these matches who had asked permission to leave citing personal reasons. The five-time Ballon D’Or champion was also given a great welcome after he emerged from the tunnel for his warm-up before the match. Ronaldo played the first half after he was subbed off and Amad Diallo was brought in.
Ronaldo did not look his usual self throughout the match as he looked to be lacking in match fitness. This should not come as a surprise as all of his other teammates had got some match time while they played in other friendlies. Diallo opened the scoring for the Red Devils soon after coming off the bench. However, United had to settle for a draw as Alvaro Garcia leveled the scores with half an hour remaining.
Did Cristiano Ronaldo really leave the Theatre of Dreams before the match was finished?
A debate is been waged over whether Ronaldo left the ground before the completion of the match. A Twitter user posted a picture of Ronaldo leaving. He even put a caption saying, “Not even waited for the final whistle.”
He followed up on his own tweet and wrote: “The king is gone” and “Honest haha everyone was like wtf.” It could be that Ronaldo could have been given permission by United head coach Erik Ten Hag to leave for a variety of reasons.
However, without any clarification, it certainly raises some eyebrows with the player looking to leave the club this season. Moreover, Ten Hag claimed before that match: “He is not on the level of the rest of the squad because he missed a lot of weeks. But he needs games and he needs training, a lot.”
