Cole Palmer set to complete his Chelsea Medicals today

Cole Palmer will undergo a medical at Chelsea today to complete his transfer from Manchester City, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Blues and City had reached an agreement on an agreement worth £45 million on Wednesday. Chelsea’s initial bid worth £35million didn’t match City’s valuation of the England U-21 international. Thus, with the transfer window closing soon, Chelsea decided to make a bold move to sign the youngster in a huge deal.

Chelsea signs the ‘Talented Man City Youngster’

After receiving a chance in a few games for Pep Guardiola, Palmer is eager to transfer to Stamford Bridge in quest of more regular playing time. This season, the England youth international has made a significant contribution in a few games, scoring significant goals in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup. Mauricio Pochettino sought for a forward with the versatility to play on the flanks as well as at No. 10, and that player joining Chelsea will fulfil his wish. In addition, he will have little Premier League experience, which the head coach sought of a target player.

West Ham and Brighton had previously expressed interest in Palmer but only Chelsea could match City’s high valuations. Fabrizio Romano states that Palmer will undergo a medical in London today. He is set to sign a 4 year deal with the Blues. The player longed for a move to Chelsea because he was eager for more playing time. Palmer played less than 1000 minutes last season mostly as a sub. Due to lack of chances, he only contributed just two goals in his 25 outings. However He is a great threat and can score goals consistently.

Palmer wants first-team action in Stamford Bridge

Palmer’s contract at the Etihad Stadium was until 2026. Although Pep Guardiola was willing to keep him, he was attracted to the first-team oppurtunities at Chelsea. Palmer has played in the Premier League for 10 minutes so far this season, joining the team against Burnley on the first day of the season. Additionally, he got on the scoreboard in the Super Cup final against Sevilla, which City eventually won 5-4 on penalties. Since making his senior debut for City in September 2020, Palmer has made 41 appearances across all leagues but mostly as a substitute.

After letting a number of players depart as part of their summer reorganisation, the Blues have signed 10 new players this season. The major signing includes Moisés Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, and Robert Sanchez. If Palmer passes his medical and signs a long-term contract, he will become the Chelsea’s 11th new player. Chelsea spent more than £400 million this summer and will be hoping for a good season ahead.
