Chelsea eager to sign Brennan Johnson after missing out on Olise

In the last days of the summer transfer window, Chelsea supporters have kept a close eye on Brennan Johnson. This week, The Evening Standard revealed that the Blues and Nottingham Forest had discussed the possibility of acquiring the Wales international this summer. Chelsea is trying to negotiate a agreement including potential swap deal involving Trevoh Chalobah.

Chelsea wants to land Brennan Johnson at Stamford Bridge 

Brennan Johnson might cost Chelsea in the range of £45-50 million this summer. However Blues might include players like Chalobah in a part exchange deal to lower the agreement. The Blues are the eyeing 22-year-old youngster following their failed pursuit of Michael Olise. Johnson has three years left on his contract. Thus Forest are under no pressure to sell him urgently this summer.

He played a crucial role for his team to avoid relegation last season. Forest finished 16th in the Premier League table, just four points more from 18th-placed Leicester City. He scored eight goals and gave 3 assists in the Premier League. During the Championship campaign of 2021/22, he scored 19 goals while providing nine assists across all competitions for Forest. He can play as a striker, winger or an attacking midfielder. His versatility will surely benefit Chelsea Boss Pochettino. Forest manager Steve Cooper also praised the youngster couple of times last season. Back in February, he said:

“He’s a fantastic player, we know he’s got qualities and is a great finisher.”

However, Tottenham and West Ham have also shown interest in the youngster. The Welshman has the same agent as Reece James. Hence, Chelsea might use their tactics to sign him anyhow. Chelsea are looking forward to face West Ham United on Sunday in the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino have a humongous task taking charge of the Blues this summer. The Argentine intends to pick up his first win this weekend.
