About Football Express UK

With friday’s 3-0 victory over Luton Town by Chelsea, led by goals from Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling, gave Mauricio Pochettino his first Premier League victory as Blues manager. Sterling continued his strong start to the season with a brilliant performance which included a brilliant first goal, a well-taken second goal, and then an assist for Jackson.

Raheem Sterling looking ahead to regain his old form in Chelsea

Raheem Sterling’s efforts this year have been praised by Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, who also gives the attacker credit for his recent form and stellar performances. Sterling cost £47.5 million when he transferred from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge last summer. Sterling came to Chelsea netting 131 goals and 95 assists in 339 games for the Cityzens. However in previous season, he was nowhere close to his peak form in Chelsea . In 38 appearances across several tournaments, he scored only nine goals and contributed four assists. The England international, meanwhile, has been more like himself this season, gliding past opponents and creating opportunities. Last Friday, he assisted on a goal and scored a brace as Chelsea defeated Luton Town 3-0.

Mauricio Pochettino lauds Raheem Sterling’s performances

“His commitment in the way he wants to contribute with the team, with his work ethic and quality, he deserves the full credit for his performance,” Pochettino says praising Sterling. The Argentine tactician says: “I’m so pleased for him. He told me last season was a difficult season for him. But I am very pleased when the player is happy. And when an offensive player can score or assist, for us, it’s the best feeling.”

“Our first conversation with all of the players, and Raheem. I love to ask the position they love to play, how they feel, how they see themselves,” Pochettino stated indicating a close bond with the winger. Chelsea Boss further adds that:

“I think with a player like him, peforming how he is in the last games, to find the responsibility is inside of him and he deserves the credit.”

The statistics demonstrate Sterling as one of the top wingers in the Premier League during the past ten years. Chelsea’s attack will look so much better if the £50 million winger regains his confidence and form. The England international might be able to significantly contribute to compensating Chelsea’s lack of goals. The fans in Stamford Bridge will be hoping that the Englishman may lead them in the top 4 race.
