Aston Villa have no intention of halting their business in the summer transfer market. The Villans are looking to surge ahead in the transfer market and have therefore set their sights on a new target. According to 90min, Villa are plotting a move for center-forward Alfredo Morelos. Villa want to sharpen their attack for next season and hence want the Rangers man. Moreover, Steven Gerrard has worked with Morelos at Rangers and knows the player inside out. As a result, the Villa manager has asked the club to acquire the services of his former employee.
Aston Villa have already concluded a massive three signings this summer and further want Morelos to reinforce their squad. Furthermore, Danny Ings’ failure to deliver has prompted the Midlanders to look for another option.
Aston Villa signed Ings from Southampton last summer after scoring 46 goals in 100 appearances for the Saints. However, the striker managed only 7 goals in 31 games for Villa last season. As a result, Gerrard wants Alfredo Morelos who has been consistently netting for the Rangers. Meanwhile, reports from Scotland suggest that Rangers are unhappy with their former manager coming for their players.
Villa preparing official bid for Morelos
Aston Villa have Morelos on their radar since the striker’s marvelous form with Rangers. The Colombian has netted 113 goals and further assisted 51 in 224 games for Ranger since joining them in 2017. As evident, the striker racks up 1.3 goal contributions per game for the Glasgow outfit. Moreover, Morelos has played 158 games for Rangers in Gerrard’s tenure, scoring a whopping 83 goals and assisting 37.
Therefore, there is no surprise that Steven Gerrard is keen on luring Morelos to Villa. Last season a well, Morelos finished on 19 goals in 42 games. Moreover, his 4 strikes in 9 Europa League outings helped Rangers reach the final of the competition, where they lost out to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Though Villa believe Rangers are reluctant in selling Morelos, they could still facilitate his exit. The striker has only one year left on his current deal and has shown no desire to extend it. Rangers fear they will have to lose him for free next summer and are hence open to his sale this term. Nonetheless, the Scottish giants want £30 million for their prized asset, which is almost three times of his market value (£11 million).
Morelos is also reportedly excited by a reunion with his former boss, and chance of playing in the Premier League. Steven Gerrard has already started building his team in order to fight for European places next season. Morelos could be a bolstering addition to Aston Villa who boast of attacking talents such as Philippe Coutinho, Emiliano Buendia and Ollie Watkins.
